"If this one slipped
under your radar when it was released in late 1997, it's certainly
making up the distance now with a #7 appearance on the January '99
NAV Top 100
chart. Like the proverbial dark horse, the music catches up with
you from the outside
using deceptively simple guitar-bass-drum-keyboard arrangements
to flesh out
impressively complex melodies that are truly memorable. Sprinting
from the starting
line of each 3-4 minute track, Bonk goes right for the heart with
intensely emotional
six-string phrasing backed by tasty percussion on "So I Guess This
Means Goodbye"
and "Tanzen", then stretches out into a comfortable mid-course stride
with the languid
and lovely "Indigo Muse". While he capably sets an urban ambiance
with "Momentum",
Bonk's strength resides in more romantic strains where his impeccable
guitar work
melds in simmering ecstasy with silken violin strings and haunting
harmonies, such as
on "If You Only Knew" and "Tiger Dance". It's this thoroughbred
ability to weave
passionate instrumental dialogs between guitar and listener that
brings home the
blue ribbon." - PJ Birosik, Reviewer - NAV - February, 1999.
