"There seems to be a happy mood that carries through Jamie Bonk's
new album, making
it an easygoing pleasure to listen to. You can hear influences of
different styles on various
tracks from jazz to flamenco to reggae.
There are many fingerstyle guitarists, and frequently it seems that
exploring more dark,
somber, introspective or mystical moods offers greater musical possibilities.
Albums like
this, which seem enthusiastically good natured, seem fewer in number.
This is the sort of
album that would set the right mood for a party, or just lightening
up the atmosphere at
work.
I like hearing these melodies bounce around in a sprightly sort
of way. Bonk has a good
ear for a melody and his tunes are loaded with hooks that I find
myself humming along
with. The keyboard and percussion clearly play a supporting role
on this album, letting his
fingerpicking remain front and center the whole way.
In this set of original compositions, it's almost hard to pick one
favorite, because just as I
savor one delicious moment, another comes rolling along. It's refreshing
to be able to kick
back with sounds that invite you to enjoy them without even trying
hard." - Dan Liss -
